A Child's Salvation

Throughout His ministry on earth, Jesus placed great emphasis on children. In the Book of Matthew (18:1-6,14 and 19:14), He answers the question, "Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?" by using a child as the example. For some, it is debatable whether infants or young children will go to heaven if their life ends before they ask for and receive salvation. As I read and interpret God's Word, it could not be more clear that they do.

From the Catholic Church who recognize the age of accountability at 7 to most Protestants who look more towards the 12-13 years of age (similar to the Jewish faith), the age of accountability is by no means a set standard for all children. Throughout history, we have witnessed the various levels of understanding and accountability of our youth. When discussing this topic, it is vitally important we refer back to the Old Testament in Deuteronomy (6:7) where Moses instructs us to diligently teach our children about God,  and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down and when thou risest up. Notice we are to include God in every aspect of their lives.

By God's great mercy and grace and Jesus' atoning death for all, infants and young children can and do go to heaven!
