Is It True?

As Christians, we believe the Bible to be the living Word of God. Not some of it or even most of it, but all of it. It is the foundation on which we should live our lives. It provides comfort, wisdom, guidance, conviction and hope. But how do we know it is true? In our journey through life, we must rely upon discernment as we study God's Word.
Beyond historical proof of the Scriptures, we can also see God's Hand in the writings of each book. Certainly, there may be other accounts of history that reference God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The original King James Bible contained 80 books that included the 14 books of the Apocrypha that were placed in between the Old and New Testament. Not considered divinely inspired by scholars, these books were later removed.
In the Book of Proverbs (30:5), we read these words, Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. In this text, the word "pure" means refined or tested. In other words, found to be true. Notice the writer says, every word. Just as Jesus tells us we are either for Him or against Him, the same holds true for God's Word: we either believe all of it or none of it.
We can also look in the Book of Ephesians (6:11-17) where Paul describes the full armor of God. Included is the belt of truth. In Roman times, the belt on a soldier's uniform served several purposes including holding the clothing together, securing or protecting the core (loins) and providing a place to keep your other weapons such as a sword (of the Spirit) to do battle.
My prayer for you is to be wrapped in the truth of God and that you have found a church that preaches every Word...
