A Good Night's Sleep

Who doesn't enjoy a good night's sleep? For some, sleep is an elusive gift from God. For others, each night brings blessings of rest and rejuvenation. While working midnights in law enforcement, I can tell you that sleep deprivation does strange things to your mind and body. We were created to rest (peacefully) in order to function (properly).

Proverbs 3:24 tells us, When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. At night, when you lay your head on your pillow does your mind start to race? Do you begin thinking about all of the stresses of life? Or, are you able to find rest and peace knowing that God was, is and always will be with you? Easy to say but sometimes hard to do.

Most of us have a night time ritual before going to bed. I share mine to hopefully encourage you to find the same peace I have. Before falling asleep, I read a random scripture with some insight into the passage(s). Next, I simply thank God for all He has done for me regardless of what kind of day I have had. Finally, I pray for the well being of others and not for myself. I pray for my family members, my church, friends, individual prayer requests shared with me AND for those individuals that I may not particulally be fond of (very tough to do!).

After doing these things, I let my mind go and trust my thoughts to the Lord. I encourage you to do the same.

Have a great rest of your week, I am looking forward to a wonderful service on Sunday...
