Are you one of those people who can survive on just a couple hours of sleep? Or, do you need at least 8 hours to function and make it through the day? For many, sleeplessness can lead to a variety of health concerns including: fatigue, irritability and depression. Out of all the miserable feelings we experience, being tired and not being able to sleep has to be one of the worst! Many health experts recommend having a particular routine while getting ready for bed. They suggest not being on your phone or watching TV and to try and get to bed at the same time every night.

All of us from time to time experience a sleepless night. Young children, a loud noise and worry on our minds can all contribute to a long or short night (depending on how you look at it). As you lay your head down at night, what occupies your mind? Does it begin to empty out from all of the day's activities as you spend time in prayer? Or, does it begin to fill up and race with all the things you have been and are now thinking about? Are you able to relax, breath and lower your heart rate? We live in a stress filled, fast paced and, at times, chaotic world. Our Creator made our bodies and minds to be able to hold only so much. And when we overdue either, we are reminded of our built-in limitations. I am very thankful that God knew exactly what He was doing when He formed us in the womb of our mothers.

Psalm 4:8 says I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. When you lie down at night, are you at peace with yourself and your world? Is it even possible? The Bible tells us things which are impossible with men are possible with God (Luke 18:27). There is a peace Jesus offers us that cannot be duplicated or matched by ANYTHING in this world. With Christ, we are able to lay all of our worries, fears, concerns, deadlines and everything else at His feet. In fact, He wants us to do that every day.

How have you been sleeping lately? If you struggle with the weight of the world as you try to find a good night's sleep, I invite you to share some time in God's Word, feel His presence and accept His offer of peace. Your world will never be the same...
