Are You Saved?

It may seem like a rhetorical question to ask a professing Christian if they are saved. Unfortunately, many who profess knowing Jesus have never accepted Him as their personal Savior. They have been told or convinced themselves that by going to a certain church, being baptized, taking communion or believing that Jesus is real all assure them salvation. Even sadder, many will go through life feeling these things guarantee them an eternal home in heaven.
As believers, we fall short in fulfilling the Great Commission when we chose not to share our testimony with others and when we chose not to ask others when they (specifically) accepted Jesus as their Savior. Many times, we assume the people sitting next to us in church are, somehow, automatically saved because they are in church. As a pastor once said, "Sitting in church no more makes you a Christian, than sitting in a garage makes you a car!"
Certainly asking someone a direct question about their eternity can be scary and uncomfortable. It is important that we ask God for guidance and wisdom when He provides opportunities for us to do so. It should not be done out of guil, judgement or shame but in a loving, caring and respectful way. There is no doubt in my mind, when I stand before Jesus He will ask me how many people I extended an invitation to be saved. Remember, it is our privilege to plant seeds and our duty to step back and let God water them.
Romans 10:9-10 tells us, that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
As you come into contact with those in life, do not be afraid to share the good news of Jesus and His invitation to be saved. Never assume someone must be a Christian, their very life depends on it...
