Are You Truly Free?

During this time of the year as we celebrate our country's freedom, we as Christians have a special freedom to be thankful for. Many people believe followers of Jesus have limited or no freedom because of all "our rules". To some, leaving a life based on biblical principles and truths does not allow us to experience all that live has to offer. Individuals do not want to give up their idea of freedom so they can continue to take part in worldly pleasures. Today, we have many churches filled with both leaders and members who have allowed the enemy to convince them that they can find freedom in Christ while not giving up their freedom found in the world.

In Chapter 8 of the Book of John, Jesus is discussing freedom with both believers and non-believers. He is trying to make them understand that true freedom can only be found in Him and that those who cling to their worldly freedom are, in fact, slaves to the very things they were afraid of losing. The alcoholic that says, "I can't quit, the drug addict that screams, "I can't stop" and the teenager that cannot go a minute without their phone and social media. In reading God's Word, we can plainly see (if we are willing to look) that freedom found in worldly choices only leads to becoming a slave to those choices. True freedom found in Jesus allows us to be set free from the bonds of this world AND to still be able to enjoy the blessings found in our lives.

The Apostle Paul tells the church of Rome that only God's righteousness will set us free. Are you free indeed today? If so, you have every reason to celebrate...
