Broken Promises

From an early age, I was taught that a man's word is his bond. Both my dad and grandpa placed great importance on following through when a promise was made. It seems like many in our society have gradually fallen away from this biblical principle.

In the Book of Numbers, Moses is having an administrative meeting with the leaders of the Israelite tribes. During the meeting, he covers important commands (instructions) from the Lord. Chapter 30, verse 2 Moses tells them, "If a man makes a special promise to the Lord or makes a promise with an oath, he must not break his promise. He must do everything he said he would do."

How much better would we be if all parents were teaching and modeling this?!?! Broken promises now seem to be an accepted and anticipated characteristic from young people as well as adults. Whether it be in your own family, chosen profession or even church promises seems to come and go without much thought or effort.

Would you like to know the best way to build or break your credibility as a Christian? It comes down to kept or broken promises.

I hope each of you has a blessed week. My challenge to you is this: honor the oaths you have taken in your life both to God and those He has placed in your life...
