How Clean Are You?

During the beginning of a new year, many of us want to “clean up” something in our lives: a vice, eating habits or even our homes! Whatever we are looking at, there are three types of clean: physical, mental and spiritual. In its beautiful wisdom, the Bible speaks on each one.

In the Book of Mark (7:1-9 and 13-20) and John (2:19-21) Jesus talks about our physical body, both inner and outer, and how each should reflect the image of God. It is also important to note that Jesus also speaks on how we sometimes worry more about what the world thinks about how we look than what He does.

Psalm 51:10 refers to being mentally clean, Create in me a clean heart, O God,And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Thoughts slip into our minds, but do we allow them to stay in our hearts? It is not unclean to think or comment on the attractiveness of someone other than your spouse. However it can become unclean to continue to dwell and fixate on those thoughts.

The third type of “clean” is spiritual. In church, do you sometimes just go through the motions? Maybe the enemy will convince you that you just do not feel spiritual today. Or, maybe you just clean up spiritually on Sundays and not the rest of the week. If either of these two things are happening to you, the enemy is robbing you of so many blessings God wants to give!

As we look to a new year and the renewed hope found within it, I encourage you to reach out to Jesus, seek His wisdom and discover those things that need cleaned up in your life…
