Is God Asking For Too Much?

We live in a demanding world, one that demands both our time and attention. Too many times, the demands become so stressful that some suffer health issues as a result. Our bodies and minds were made to sustain only such much before they start breaking down. As some point, people or things in your life will be sacrificed simply to survive. Unfortunately, as Christians we sometimes push God away by finding excuses not to give Him our best.

In the Book of Malachi (1:6-14) God is speaking through the prophet to share His disdain for "leftovers". In these verses, God is asking his people why they prefer to give their best to other things in their lives while giving Him whatever remains (if anything at all). Excuses like, "I am just too busy to find time to pray, read my bible or go to church." Or, "I am just not getting the answers I want when I talk to God."

We are to give God our best in every aspect of our lives. And when we do give our best, it is not to be done begrudgingly but joyfully. In our home, we should work everyday to give our best to our spouses and our children. At church, we should focus on giving our best through our attitudes, offerings, attendance and service. Perhaps the hardest part of our day to give God our best is at work. However, the bible tells us to work as to give glory unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23-24). With this mindset, your job can be a form of worship and praise.

The key to giving God your best everyday is simple to do yet difficult to live out. No matter what kind of day you are having, give Him the best version of you even if it isn't your very best. He deserves it...
