What Is Your Sacrifice?

In the Book of Isaiah (53:2-12), we read a prophecy that speaks about the suffering that Christ endured for you and me. It is incredible to think God loves us to the point of being willing to offer His only Son as a sacrifice. One of the most important biblical truths to remember is that while every sacrifice is an offering, not every offering is a sacrifice. An offering is when you give something to someone. A sacrifice is when you give up something for someone.

In the Old Testament, we learn of several different types of offerings including: burnt, drink, meal, trespass and sin. All had a specific purpose and were used to draw one closer to God. Of the many requirements, it was expected to offer the "best" when offering something to God. The first example of an offering in the Bible can be found in Genesis (4:3-7) where Cain and Abel gave unto the Lord. It is important to note that one of these offerings was found acceptable, while the other was not.

Later, in the Book of Genesis (22:7-8,13) we read of the first sacrifice when Abraham took his son Isaac to offer him unto God. What a powerful reminder that the great I Am always provides when we are faithful and follow His will!

What does God expect us to offer Him? Our best. Whether it be through our time, tithes, comfort or personal want, each time we offer up something to God, it is should be both an offering and a sacrifice.

What is your sacrifice to Him today?
