Love Yourself But Not Your Sin

Are you content with the person God created in you? Do you wish you looked like someone else? Have you found peace in the never-ending pursuits of this world? Are there things you want to change about yourself?

From time to time all of us ask these questions. For some, it may be everyday. In all of history, God created one of you. His Word tells us we are fearfully and wonderfully made and He wants us to love ourselves as His creation. So how are we able to love ourselves but not our sin?

Psalms 34:14 gives us a simple answer: Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. As Christians, we have been given a peace from The Holy Spirit that goes beyond what the world can provide. If we pursue Jesus daily, He can provide us a peace that allows us to accept and love who were are without accepting the sin we commit. Notice I said pursue Jesus daily. I do not believe it is enough to know and acknowledge Him; we need to go after Him. The peace Jesus provides allows us to love ourselves (contentment) without being satisfied who we are with the sin in our lives.

You may be asking yourself right now: I can't love myself because of what I have done, what I have thought and what I look like. My answer to you is this: God still loves you in spite of those things. In fact, He loves you too much to leave you in those sins. I can also tell you that until you are able to find contentment in the peace Jesus is offering, you will not be able to truly love others.

I hope you all have a blessed Sunday. Pray for those in our congregation who are sick, hurting and inflicted. Pray for our country and its leaders that there be a great awakening and a turning back to God...
