No Thank You

Sometimes, it is hard to tell people no. It feels like we are letting them down. As Christians, we especially lean towards "always wanting to help". If we look at the bible, it helps us navigate our relationships on how to journey with people we say both yes and no to. Even Jesus had to say no sometimes.

In the fifth chapter of Matthew (verse 37), Jesus encourages us to let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one. Sometimes we try to say or do too much. Especially when we don't know what to say or do. In a world full of words, Jesus encourages us to simplify our conversations. In other words, saying too much can cause unintended harm.

In the past, a person's word was a binding contract. A handshake was the same as an oath or a promise. Unfortunately, those days have left us. As Followers of Christ, we are taught that oaths and swearing to a promise are not necessary. When we accept Him into our lives, we have no need of these things. Our words should match our actions. What we say is exactly what we do, regardless of the situation or circumstances.

Please keep each other and prayer this week. Our church family is facing many individual challenges. Thanks be to God; we do not have to face them alone!
