Run Your Race

Although I have been running (okay jogging slowly) for over 30 years, I am not a runner. Like many, I utilize jogging as a way to stay in shape both physically AND mentally. The thousands of miles I have run provided better health and prepared me for challenges I have encountered in my live. And just like going for a run, I focused on finishing.

In several passages, the Bible speaks about running a race. Hebrews 12:1 tells us, Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Are you burdened with the sin of the world? Do you feel weighed down by the stresses of life? If so, I encourage you today to lighten your load by shedding that "extra" weight that is slowing you down and preventing you from running the race and living the life God intended. When you do, your legs won't be so heavy, your lungs won't feel like they are on fire and your gasps for breath will slowly disappear. Just like a runner, a Christian should only carry what is necessary while they are running. Everything else is just stuff that will weigh you down. And just like the welcome sight of a finish line to an exhausted runner, there is a prize waiting for all of us when we make it home.

I hope you have a blessed weekend. Please continue to keep each other and our country in your prayers. Remember, God is still in control of this race...
