Lovel and I now have three sons. Ethan, our oldest is 28 and is a father himself. TraVon is 22 years old and currently serving our country in the U.S. Army. Noah is married to our daughter Madeline who is expecting our second grandchild in February.

As a father, part of my duty is to guide and protect them. With that, I have a God-given responsibility to provide them "directions" in life. Ultimately, it is up to each of them to choose their individual path.

Proverbs 4: 20-27 is a map that I hope each follows. This passage starts out by the father telling the son to be sure he is listening. I have found in my life there is a difference between hearing someone and listening to someone. I hope as Ethan was growing up, he actually listened to his dad at least once or twice :-)

Verse 24 talks about the language that comes out of your mouth. I have always tried to teach my sons that actions, not words, make a man.

Verse 25 encourages the son to keep his eyes up looking straight ahead. What a wonderful message to ALL of us. Instead of looking down and seeing what the world has to offer, we should all be fixing our eyes on Jesus.

I hope you have a great rest of your week. See you in church...
