Thankful for Loving Correction

Being disciplined and/or giving discipline is not a bad thing. As a society, we have fallen into chaos and confusion for fear of both. Parents, teachers, coaches and other adults are afraid to correct or discipline a child because of possible ramifications. I can remember growing up my mom and my friend's moms would, thankfully, take the time to correct me and teach me.

Now, we have self-proclaimed intelligent people saying kids should figure things out on their own and get to decide for themselves what is right and what is wrong. A society or people that do not agree to live by an established set of rules and guidelines (ever hear of the Ten Commandments?) are doomed to fail.

Proverbs 3:11-12 encourages us to not despise the Lord's discipline, which is sometimes called conviction. It compares it to the love a father (or parent) shows a child by teaching through discipline. I encourage you to do the same. Our kids may say they don't want it; truth is they both need and want boundaries in their life.

I hope you have a great rest of your week. See you in church Sunday...
