The Gift of Letting Go

Sometimes we hold onto things in our lives. They may be material things or feelings that we struggle to understand and overcome; feelings that can cause hurt and pain. The question is why do we hold onto these feelings when they are only hurting? Even more so, why do we try to deal with these emotions all alone? In the 55th chapter of Psalms (verse 22), the writer tells us to Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee.
What type of feelings are you currently holding onto?
Is it fear? Financial fear? Fear of failing? Are you consumed by worry (fear) for your children? In today’s world it is hard not to be. Many Christians still fear death. The Bible assures us that we do not need to fear that which has already been conquered. Why, then, do we still fear? Could it stem from our unbelief?
Do you hold onto feelings of biases and grudges in your life? The Bible tells us not to judge others, yet we still do. Even when we are wronged by someone and it feels very personal, we are told to return good for evil. And by doing so, we will heap burning coals upon their heads. Letting go of grudges may be the hardest lesson to learn and follow through to completely give it to God. I, for one, continue to work on this part of my testimony. How about you?
What about the hurt we feel from being “wronged”? The longer we hold on, the worse it gets. Letting go of our hurt doesn’t make us a robot or without emotions. Of course we still feel, that is how God made us! It is when we leave our burdens at the foot of the cross that we can free ourselves from the bondage they created preventing us from living AND enjoying the life we have been given.
See you in church…
