The Meek Shall Inherit The Earth

I often wonder how the world truly views Christians. It seems, especially the last few years, we have been targeted and attacked on two separate fronts. The first: a coordinated effort to take away or strip us of our God given, inalienable rights. The right to assemble at church, the right to prayer in public places and the right to profess the Bible as the infallible truth of God’s Word. The second has been a growing movement to label us with hate filled language and accuse any “Jesus lover” as being some sort of horrible monster. The result for many has been to quietly give in and back down for fear of what the world might say.

Psalm 37:11 and again in Matthew 5, we read about meekness which is defined as gentle, mild of temper, humble or submissive (we will get to that last one in a minute). Is this also the definition of weak? If we are to emulate Jesus, does that mean He was weak? Certainly not! His strength can be found as a Son, Friend, Brother and Savior. In fact, the Rock of our salvation is anything but weak while displaying amazing examples of meekness.

Throughout the Bible, we are encouraged over and over to be bold in our faith. Acts 28:31 tells us to boldly proclaim the Word. Hebrews 10:39 assures us that ours is not to shrink back or in other words cower. And, finally in 1Timothy 6:12, the Apostle Paul challenges us to fight the good fight.

As a warrior for Jesus, remind yourself before every battle that we are not to be weak in our meekness but bold in our faith.

See you in church tomorrow…
