The Mind of Jesus

It is against human nature to not think of and as the world. Doing so goes against almost every instinct in our bodies. As Christians, we are encouraged (and even commanded) to think like Jesus. In his book to the church in Colossae (chapter 3, verse 2), Paul tells us to set our affections on things above, not on things on the earth. Another word for affections is our thoughts or our minds.
Many believers fall short from the very start. Their minds are prisoners to this world, they are unable to break away. Ask yourself this very important question: what occupies your mind on a daily basis? If we are being honest, even "good" days thinking like Jesus are quickly replaced, once again, with the view of the world. In the book of Romans (12:2), Paul says we must literally transform or completely change the way in which we think. The old man must pass away.
How do we see the mind of Jesus? It is pervasive in the Bible with examples throughout the New Testament. Although we are unable to fully comprehend His mind, I believe we can focus on three characteristics that will help us to not only better understand but also try to begin thinking like Christ.
1. Focused - Amidst all the distractions, Jesus was focused on going about His Father's business. He did not let the noise of the world draw His attention away from His purpose.
2. Firm - Jesus said, all the authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. He did not waiver from His mission!
3. Forthcoming - Jesus was lovingly honest. He did not sugarcoat things to make us feel better or lie by saying that everything was going to be easy and wonderful while we walked this earth. He was telling us to steel our minds and prepare it for the war we were entering.
Are you thinking like Jesus? Or do you find your mind drifting back to the wants and worries of the world? There is freedom waiting for you if you are willing to pursue it...
