This is the Day

There is a beautiful old hymn with these words, "This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." EVERY day is a gift from God, many times we simply take it for granted, fear what it holds and/or waste it away. Did you know that today was a perfect day when it was given to you by God? Our days veer off course when humans interfere with personal ambitions and agendas. Think about it: if we looked at each day as a gift and was glad in it how much more we could enjoy the blessings of a Heavenly Father.

Instead of waking up each day and truly being thankful for it, we fill our days with temporary satisfactions, worldly pleasures and worries about things that are out of our control. The enemy loves when he can trick us into focusing on all things not God. We create idols in our schedules and appointments and only spend time with God if we have time or have gotten all of the important stuff done first.

Psalms 118:24 tells us This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Notice the writer say this is the day, not the day which is going good for us or Christmas, Easter or our birthday. He tells us today is the day every day! The second part of the verse is even more powerful. It doesn't say we may or only if we feel like rejoicing or being glad we can. The writer (who I believe is David) says we will be glad today no matter the circumstances. How wonderful when we can spend every day for the rest of our life rejoicing and being glad regardless of the circumstances! Even more so, when we focus on God and His blessings instead of the world's schedule, our view changes, our outlook is uplifted, and our hearts are filled!

No matter what you are going through today, I give you full authority to claim victory and say with certainty: This is day which the Lord has made, I choose to rejoice and be glad in it...
