What Is Stopping You?

For many, Easter Sunday is one of (two) holidays they will attend church. Whether it was learned growing up or practiced as an adult, sanctuaries across the country will be filled. But what about the other 50 Sundays during the year? In the beginning, God created the entire world and all within it and it was very good (Genesis 1:31). How incredible to know that God did not have to create us, He wanted to. We were literally made for in person fellowship. There can be no substitute. As wonderful as modern technology can be, there is no replacement for human interaction. Just as a family member returning from a long deployment far from home, no phone call or Facetime can replace that moment soldiers are reunited with loved ones.

I was glad when they said, "let us go unto the house of the Lord" (Psalm 122:1). Many feel they have to go to church when in reality, they get to go to church! What a blessing we take for granted or even find excuses not to experience. When we decide not to go to church, we rob ourselves and others of blessings. The Bible is very clear when it tells us we should never forsake the gathering together.

So what keeps us from prioritizing and being excited about worshipping Christ in person with other like-minded people?

  • Embarrassment - afraid of what the world might think or say. As Christians, shouldn't we be more concerned about what will Jesus think?

  • Lack of dedication - just not plugged into a local church or a strong relationship with Jesus. Once you decide to skip a Sunday, it becomes easier and easier to do so again.

  • Priorities - this is a BIG one! We only get excited about certain things (sporting events, huge sales events, or other opportunities to socialize). Certainly it is okay to be happy or excited about these things unless they mean more to you than the opportunity to worship, serve and praise Jesus.

I hope you and your family are excited to celebrate Easter. And I also hope you are just as excited for all the Sundays between then and Christmas...
