When God Whispers

Have you ever heard God whisper to you? I have. It is an amazing experience and one that a lot of Christians miss out on. Many times, we miss what He is trying to tell us because we cannot hear Him. Perhaps it is the noise around us that comes from schedules, appointments, audio and video stimulations or just plain noise that the enemy uses to distract us from what God is trying to speak into our lives.

Notice when Jesus wanted to be close to God, He intentionally sought a quiet place to make sure He could hear. Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed (Mark 1:35). So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed (Luke 5:16).

God whispered to Jesus and Jesus wanted to make sure He could clearly hear Him. We need to remember to do the same. Whether it is a quiet place in the woods, a prayer room in your home or a few minutes sitting in your car; all of us need to spend quiet time with our Heavenly Father everyday. By doing so, we can better hear what He is saying to us. You will be blessed in so many ways.

Even the Old Testament prophets spoke of the need to hear God, For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: "In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” (Isaiah 30:15). Read that last part again, In quietness and confidence shall be your strength. Through the prophet Isaiah, God is telling you and I that spending quiet time with Him will strengthen us and that we can have confidence in this promise.

Like me, I hope many of you fill your days with time dedicated to simply being in the presence of the Holy Spirit. Through prayer, fellowship, bible study, or daily scripture we can truly find time with our Savior. Ask yourself this question: When I am spending time with Jesus, am I hearing everything he wants to tell me?
