When You Experience A Bad Day

All of us, from time to time, have experienced a bad day. Whether it was full of frustrations, stress, pain or all three, each of us have wondered if that particular day was ever going to end. It is a natural reaction to focus on the storms of life when we are in the middle of them. And just like an actual (weather) storm, it is hard to see past the day(s) that are filled with dark skies.
I write this to you while experiencing a day such as this. Today, has seemed like a relentless attack. From the cold weather, to unforeseen expenses and unrelenting needs at work and home, it can be hard to think, and sometimes even breath. How easily I could chalk this entire day up as being BAD. But then, there is Jesus. His presence is just as strong in the valley as it is on the mountain. God's Word tells us we can be thankful in all things, even when it is impossible to be thankful for all things. The enemy wants us to focus on the frustration and allow our day to be defined by it. Our Savior allows us to look toward the good we can still find in the midst of a storm. There is good there if we take the time to look!
Proverbs 17:22 tells us, A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones. In other words, we can enjoy better mental, spiritual and physical health if we train our minds to focus on the blessings and not the burdens. Does this mean that by doing so, all of our frustrations, stresses and pain will magically disappear? Absolutely not. What is does mean is we can still thank God for days when bad things happen. Even in the midst of my bad day, I have so much to thank Him for. A warm home on a cold day. A job(s) to help pay the unexpected expenses and the ability to work in order and provide a service for and to my community. It truly is a matter of perspective.
Are you facing a storm today? If so, I encourage you to spend some time with Jesus. And instead of asking Him to fix all your problems, thank Him for being there with you as you face them. Just remember every day is a good day, some are just (a lot) better than others...
