Like many of you, I have been blessed with many friends in the different seasons of my life. While some friendships have run their course, there are a few that have stood the test of time and even grown stronger over the years. I am truly thankful for brothers in my life. I refer to them as such because our bond and love for one another goes beyond mere friendship. Having them in my life makes me a better person; they accept me for who I am, encourage me to be the man God wants me to be and hold me accountable as a loving brother.

The Bible contains many examples of this type of bond through friendship. Perhaps the most well known is that of David and Jonathan. They literally valued the lives of each other more than their own. There are genuine feelings of love and respect that never changed regardless of time, distance or circumstance. In 1Samuel (18:1), we read, more than once, that Jonathan loved David as his own soul.

We also read in the Old Testament about the friendships between Ruth and Naomi as well as Moses and Joshua. Where in the New Testament, we see strong bonds between Mary and Elizabeth, Paul and Timothy and Jesus and Peter.

Do you have friendships such as these? If so, you are beyond blessed and should give thanks to God for it. Or, are you searching for such a bond as described in God’s Word? If so, I encourage to spend time in prayer asking and for His wisdom in yoking you with someone of strong faith and self-sacrifice…
