A Long Walk With God

Sometimes it is very relaxing to go on a long walk. It allows you to talk, de-stress, reconnect and clear your mind. Many characters in the Bible were described as "walking" with God. In the Book of Genesis, we read about Noah's relationship with God, Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God (6:9). And later in Genesis (17:1), we read that God commanded Abram/Abraham to walk before Him. In Malachi, we read about Levi, And you will know that I have sent you this warning so that my covenant with Levi may continue,” says the Lord Almighty. My covenant was with him, a covenant of life and peace, and I gave them to him; this called for reverence and he revered me and stood in awe of my name. True instruction was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin (2:4-6).
Looking back at the Book of Genesis, we learn of another individual who walked with God. Enoch was the sixth generation from the house of Adam (through his son Seth). Enoch was also the great grandfather of Noah. In fifth chapter of Genesis (18-24), we read of the relationship he had with God. And, as a result Enoch was taken to heaven without experiencing death. As believers, this should inspire great hope and anticipation. God took Enoch to heaven because of his great faith, close fellowship and the desire to not have him experience death!
So, what does walking with God look like for you and me? It means keeping in step through daily fellowship with Him. By following the same path and not creating our own. And, by talking, sharing and staying connected through His Word.
If you were on a walk and happened to run into Jesus, would you stop to say hello? Would you stay and talk for awhile, if you had time. Or, would you choose to abide (stay present) with Him?
Here is the most important question: does your prayer life reflect the same?
