A Child’s Salvation

There may be no greater tragedy and heartbreak than the loss of a child. It is unnatural for a parent to bury their young; the deaths of the innocent should weigh heavy on the hearts of all Christians. The Bible speaks in length concerning children including: the love for, faith of and importance to teach them right from wrong at an early age.

In fact, in the Book of Matthew (chapter 18) Jesus uses children to answer the question of who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Another question many have asked is will a child who dies at an early age go to heaven? Or, do they need to have received salvation? Although there is no specific passage that tells us when a child becomes accountable for knowing right from wrong, it is generally thought to be around the age of 13. However, it is important to remember that each child is different as they grow in maturity. How wonderful it is that we have a loving Savior who knows each of us so deeply that He “can count the hairs on our head”.

In Proverbs (22:6), we are told to “train up a child while they are young”. As parents and adults, it is our sacred duty to speak truth into the lives of our children. One of the most unhealthy things we can do to a young child is let them figure it out for themselves. In the Book of Mark (10:13-14) Jesus expresses His displeasure with the action of adults and the importance He places on children.

By God’s grace and mercy and Jesus’ atoning death for all, young children can and do go to heaven!
