Are We There Yet?

Growing up, I used to love when my family would take a vacation. Although we never went anywhere for very long, it was always an exciting time to experience a new place with new things to do. Looking back I realize now that the anticipation of a trip was just as enjoyable as the trip itself, sometimes even more.

Ecclesiastes 2:24 sheds some light on how we should view life as we anticipate our trip to heaven. Nothing is better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and that his soul should enjoy good in his labor. This also, I saw, was from the hand of God. Many have interpreted this verse to be one filled with negativity and/or depression. To some, this verse is telling them that this (life) is all there is. In doing so, I believe we are misintrepreting God's Word and robbing ourselves of a enjoyable and blessing-filled life.

As Christians, we are journeying through life in anticipation of going home and being with Jesus. And although we can and should wait with eagerness for that day to come, we can also enjoy the journey while we prepare for the trip. Everyday is a gift to be unwrapped, enjoyed and shared. Do you view today as "just another day"? Or, are you allowing yourself to be filled with gratitude that you have been given another day to enjoy the journey?

Many will tell you that they are keeping their eyes on heaven and only focusing on the destination. Others may say they are just trying to enjoy today and not worry about tomorrow. I have wonderful news for you: with the presence of the Helper, we have the ability to enjoy both the journey and thoughts of where we are headed...
