The Boldness Of God

Webster’s Dictionary defines confidence as: firm belief or trust, boldness to have assurance. As Christians, we have confidence in a much greater Authority. This assurance of God being in control allows us to enjoy prosperous times and endure challenging moments. A boldness that comes from being filled with the Holy Spirit. 2 Timothy 1:7 encourages us with these words, For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

In the Book of Isaiah (chapter 46) God is telling us to trust in Him. He gives us the confidence by challenging us to place as much or more confidence in the world. In verses one and two we see worldly idols, that we sometimes put too much confidence in, cannot bear the load (weight). Isaiah tells us in verse two, they could not deliver the burden…but themselves are gone into captivity.

Listen to the assurances of God in verse four when He tells us, And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even will I carry, and will deliver you. And in verse nine, God assures us there is none like Him. How freeing it can be when we place our trust in the Lord! By doing so, we are then able to enjoy the blessings of life because we have not placed all of our confidence in any one of these things. Can you not see it? The confidence Jesus offers us allows us to experience the loss of confidence in worldly things without having to feel like our lives are over.

Look in Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus tells us this very thing when He compares having confidence in Him is like the man who built his houses upon the rock. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded on the rock (verse 25).

Where does your confidence lay? Is it in the government? Your job? Spouse? Bank account? None of these can compare to the assurance of the Rock. Who are you placing your confidence in today?

Stand Up Straight

Growing up, I can remember my mom reminding me to constantly "stand up straight". I am sure she was worried about my posture more than anything. But I think there was (and is) more to it than that.
