Be Careful What You Say

Remember the childhood rhyme sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me. Although I find some truth in that, the bible speaks of the power of words. Proverbs 18:21 tells us "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Our words have a tremendous impact on our testimony. What we say and how we say it can have positive or negative results.

Most all of us can recall at least one time in our lives where we have said something to someone and immediately wished we could take it back. Maybe it caused hurt, anger, confusion or, even worse, left a lasting impression on how that person viewed all Christians. The bible tells us that both blessings and cursings cannot come out of the same mouth. As believers, our words should be used to encourage, lift up and love one another even when we may disagree or be frustrated.

In the Book of Matthew (12:37), Jesus tells us, "For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." One day, each of us will have to give an account of our lives when we are called home and stand before the bema seat where God will ask us about how we used our words in this life.

In the wise words of the Madeline Quinn: think before you speak! I hope you have a great rest to your week...
