Get Rid of It

All of us are a slave to something or someone. It can be a spouse, significant other, job, bank account or some material possession. If something or someone has control of us, we are a slave to it. I encourage you to examine your life, as I have, to see what you are being controlled by. Just a warning: it may be a little painful and embarrassing (if you are honest with yourself). The Bible speaks often about the dangers of being a slave to something worldly. To find you value or importance in a temporary object, including people or possessions.

Proverbs 16 tells us Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith; in other words, less is more. There are even television shows that spotlight a current trend of downsizing. Whether it be a smaller home, less "stuff" or a lighter schedule, many people are finding value and better health with less things to place importance on or become a slave to. There is a biblical correlation to cleansing oneself of imperfections and attachments to this world. The more I have, the more I worry about. The more I worry about, the more I focus on it. All of which takes me away from time with Jesus.

I want to share my prayer with you in hopes you will find strength and peace praying the same: "Lord, please give me what I need, not what I want".

Pastor Aaron
