Is That What It Really Says?

I believe the Bible to be the infallible and inerrant Word of God; truthful in every word and and every way in it's original manuscript. In other words, the Bible was inspired by God, written by man appointed by God and without error. 2 Timothy 3:16 confirms the ownership of Scripture. So then, are we to believe that every bible every written contains complete truth?

Unfortunately from the very beginning of time, man's interpretation of God's original and inspired Word has lead to greater and greater incorrect translations and falsehoods. To learn the entire truth, we need to start from the beginning in the Garden of Eden. As the serpent and Eve were discussing the apple, how did she interpret God's commandment (Word) not to eat it? She interpreted it a different way after listening to the devil.

Let us return to 2 Timothy (3:1-7) and read more about what Paul was sharing in his letter to the young pastor. Look at verses five and seven. Are we not there today? Are some churches not full of this deception and spiritual ignorance? Do not be deceived: not all churches are houses of God and not all bibles are the words of God. There have been so many that have sinned by adding to (or taking away) from God's Word. Here is the important part to remember: many, have interpreted His Word to fit their will. Revelation 22:18-19 tells us that should never alter the original manuscripts because we do not agree, feel it is still relevant and/or are afraid it is going to hurt someone's feelings! (2 Peter 1:19-21)

Do not become like some that delight in picking and choosing different parts of the Bible to make it fit their beliefs and lifestyles.

So, how are we to know if the interpretation we read is accurate? In order to know the truth of scriptures, we must know the Truth of God who is Jesus Christ. God's Word tells us that Jesus is His living Word (John 1:1) and Truth (John 14:6) and that both can set us free. And how do we get to know Him? Through prayer, scripture and discernment. Look in 1John 4:1 where we are instructed to see for ourselves and not just believe everything a pastor, bible or church tells us.

Are you reading, listening to and following the true Word of God today?
