It Does Not Make Sense

Throughout the Bible, believers are referred to as a peculiar people. In Deuteronomy (14:2), Moses says the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself. 1 Peter 2:9 tells us, But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light". To the world, Christians may seem different or strange. And that is exactly what we should be.

For God's description of his children is far different than how the world defines us. As you read the Bible it should become quickly apparent to you that we, as believers, while living in this world should not be of this world. In the Book of John (15:19) Jesus tells us this, If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. When you and I accepted Jesus as our personal Savior, we stopped making sense to the world.

How can we have an ever present hope in a world full of darkness? How is it possible to be thankful in all things? Even stranger, we walk around with a confidence that is not our own. Bought by the blood, born again; living in a world that no longer feels like home. How different the world looks when you allow Christ to remove the scales from your eyes that once blinded you. So, are you and I truly set apart? You better believe it. Notice Jesus does not say we are better than non-believers, just different. Perhaps we, as the church, need to start becoming even more peculiar and less popular in the view of a lost and dying world...
