Jesus Pride

I am proud of our children for many reasons. I am especially proud of our son Travon who has asked to be baptized. I am just as humbled that he asked me to baptize him. What greater victory can a father have then to see his children enter into a personal relationship with Christ.
Jesus Pride, two words that you will rarely see together especially in a sermon! In fact, most Christians will (rightfully) tell you The Bible is full of warnings about being proud. In the sixteenth chapter of Proverbs, the writer uses pretty strong words such as destruction and abomination. So as Christians, should we not be proud?
Because I am, I am proud of my children, family, where I come from, my country (its founding principles and not so much what it has become) and I am proud to be called a child of the King. As much as The Bible speaks out against pride, it also speaks just as much about not being ashamed of the gospel and our relationship with Jesus.
What can we say then about being a proud Christian? I believe we can and should be proud of people and things in our lives just like God is. Look in The Book of Matthew God was proud of Jesus for His ministry on earth and desire to be baptized (Chapter 3, verse 17). And again in Matthew (25:23) when Jesus is telling a parable that is speaking about heaven. In the parable, the master is proud of his servants accomplishments on earth.
So what is the key to having pride but still following God’s will? Just as the Apostle Paul was proud of the church in Corinth we can and should be proud of people and things in our lives. Not for our own or their glory, but for His.
See you in church tomorrow…
