All of us, at one time or another, have faced major challenges in our lives. If you haven’t yet, hang on because it is coming. These “mountains” seem immovable when we are first confronted with them. Whether it is the loss of a loved one, changing jobs, financial hardships or other significant emotional events it is human nature to want to avoid the pain associated with these difficult times.

The Bible is filled with people facing great challenges/mountains in their lives. Like you and me, many of these individuals asked God to move mountains (which He can) and take what felt like a seemingly, insurmountable test away from them. Many times, God allows the mountain to remain so we can face the challenge. Why? The Bible teaches us it could be for a variety of reasons including: refining and purifying us to become the person God intended us to be or strengthening our faith by relying less on ourselves and more on Him.

In 1 Samuel (17:45-47) David faces his mountain Goliath by focusing more on the strength of his Savior than the strength of the mountain.

Daniel faces his mountain when speaking to King Nebuchadnezzar (3:17-18) by telling him that even if God doen’t remove the mountain of Daniel’s torture and death, he still will not bow to the king.

And when Jesus showed His human side by asking God to take this cup (mountain of His crucifixion) then faced it by saying nevertheless, not my will but Your will be done.

Like Jesus, sometimes we need to say, leave the mountain right where it is…
