How many of you have ridden a roller coaster? Did you enjoy it? If so, what did you like about it? Or, were you afraid and sick to your stomach? Does it give you comfort that God has designed the "track" for your life? The Bible tells us that He knew us before we were even formed in the womb and that, through Jesus, we have been given purpose and grace even before the world began.

The stages of our lives can be compared to the tracks of a roller coaster.

  1. Anticipation - While you were in line waiting for your turn to ride, were you patient? Did you embrace the time? Sometimes in life, God allows us to wait. Do we see that as a blessing or a curse?

  2. Choosing a Seat - When you boarded the coaster and selected your seat, where was it? Did you have courage and sit in the very front? Did you select the middle because it was comfortable? Or, did you concede to follow everyone else by choosing to sit in the back? Do we not do the very same thing in life?

  3. Climbing the First Hill - Most coasters will have a huge hill at the beginning where riders are pulled up to the top slow and steady. As Christians, we face many "mountains" that need to be climbed in order to get to where we need to go.

  4. Down it Goes - From the top of the mountain to the bottom of the valley. Sometimes we experience this very thing. So what should we do when we suddenly go down? Hold on! Hold on to God's promises and faithfulness.

  5. Too Fast- Sometimes, the roller coaster is going to fast and does not give us time to adjust. The same is true in life. We do not have time to adjust before our journey takes another turn. In other words, we are not in control.

  6. Are You Holding On? - When you ride a roller coaster, do you have your hands in the air or are you holding on for dear life? If you have truly given your life to God, should your hands be up and not clinging onto life?

  7. When the Ride is Over - Did you feel relief? Or, are you thrilled with the memories of the ride?

Make no mistake, we are on the ride of a lifetime. How are you enjoying your trip so far?
