Sinking Sand

There are so many great, contemporary Christian songs that speak to the greatness of God. Artists like Third Day and Zach Williams have amazing talent. With that, I sincerely hope that those young in their faith do not miss the beauty and impact of some older, traditional hymns. On Christ The Solid Rock is one in particular that speaks of a great hope we can only find in a relationship with Jesus. The chorus of the song tells that Christ is the solid Rock while all other things are just sinking sand.

In the Book of Matthew (7:24-27), Jesus uses this same illustration as He teaches about wisdom in whom we place our trust. How the wise man will build his house (life) upon the rock (Christ) while the foolish man will build his house on the sand which represents the world in which we live.

There are so many truths we can glean from both God's Word and this particular hymn. Christ will be sturdy and firm throughout all of the "storms" of life. Unlike sand, the rock will not be moved easily by the rains, winds or high tides. The rock is a constant support for our lives that we can confidently build upon.

On the other hand, the sand is prone to change with the ebbs and flows of life. Whether it be heavy rains, high tides or strong winds this world seems to constantly be changing and conforming to its current situation. Worse yet, when the sun beats down, the sand becomes so hot it is almost impossible to stand upon it.

Do you feel like you are sinking today? Are you loosing confidence in the things you have built your life around? If so, I encourage you to find the Rock and start rebuilding...
