The Anchor Still Holds

I love being on a boat. Growing up, we had family friends that owned a pontoon boat on Salt Fork Lake. On summer days, we would pack a lunch and head out on the water. Once we found a cozy spot, we would drop the anchor while eating and enjoying the beauty of God's creation.

Even though we used the anchor, the boat would still move and sway from side to side depending on which way the tide was going. This same principle can be applied to our spiritual lives. We have several anchors in this world: family, jobs, homes, relationships, bank accounts. Although they provide a certain amount of safety and stability, these anchors can become temporary when the storms of life can turn the "tides" against us.

Thankfully, as Christians, we have a permanent anchor in Jesus. No matter what is happening in the waters around us, He stabilizes us. The bible tells us that Christ can and should be the cornerstone of our life. As with any other structure, the cornerstone determines how sound and well built it will be and if it can withstand the storms.

How is your boat anchored? Are you putting all of your faith in one of your temporary anchors hoping that it can keep you safe? I pray that you are secure in Christ and that He is the anchor in your life...
