The Greatest Gift

This time of year many of us are excited to both give and receive gifts. In truth, I can tell you there is more enjoyment for me personally in giving; unless it is a new horse, 1966 Mustang or all expense paid trip to Arizona (in case you need ideas on what to get me for Christmas:-)
I am sure you have received some wonderful gifts throughout your life. Some may have been a materialistic gift while others may have been a heartfelt gesture or token that meant a great deal to you. One of the greatest gifts you can give costs no money: your time. Without a doubt, there is someone in your life who wants nothing more than to simply spend time together. Search for this person and be sure you give them this gift; I promise you will be blessed beyond measure.
The Bible speaks of many types of gifts; those that are physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. The Book of Proverbs is full of some incredible wisdom. In the third chapter (verses 5-6) the writer speaks of the greatest gift: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thine ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Notice the repeated word (in bold), we are provided the amazing opportunity to give our all, our entire life to God. There is nothing we need to handle ourselves, or deal with alone; a relationship with Jesus when we seek to serve Him in all aspects of our life is the greatest gift of all. Here is the most amazing part: when we choose to give Him our all we, in return, receive His all! Trusting God and not ourselves, acknowledging Him in all we do and following His will gives us three things:
Forgiveness of our sins
Freedom from the chains and bonds of sin
A Future in heaven where we can spend eternity
This Christmas while you are giving or receiving gifts, I encourage you to take a few minutes to reflect on how giving our all to God allows us to receive the greatest gift: His son Jesus...
