Are You a Big Toe?

Have you ever spent time thinking about your big toe? Seems like a silly question until you realize that without it, you will have trouble walking. In fact, without a big toe we lose stability, balance and the ability to efficiently walk from one place to another. In other words, it is an important part of our bodies created by God.
In his first letter to the church in Corinth, the Apostle Paul talks about the body of Christ. Looking in chapter 12, we read how our physical bodies parallel the church or body of Christ Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular (verse 27). Paul talks about each part of the physical body plays a role just like each member of the body of Christ. Some may be more "honorable" than others or seemingly have a more glamorous or important job. However, in spite of how it appears, each part plays a vital role in the well-being and success of the body. Regardless of its role, each part is just as important as any other Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary (verse 22).
Paul goes on to tell us that each of us were created with and for a purpose. None so valuable or important that they do not need the other parts of the body. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you (verse 21). In fact, when one part of the body hurts the rest of the body feels pain. This is exactly how Jesus wants us to function as a part of His body/church. We not only suffer together but also rejoice together.
Do you feel inadequate in your life? Does it seem like you have no purpose and are struggling to identify your role in the church? Talk to a trusted member of the congregation, to your pastor or, even better, go straight to the source and talk to Jesus. He has a plan for His entire body, big toe and all...
