Are You Rusty?

I am convinced that the world needs less stuff. Our homes are full of things stored in boxes, basements and garages that we haven't seen or used in years but just had to have and can't get rid of. When storage units are one of the fastest growing businesses in the United States, you know we have way too much stuff! Material things make us happy for a few moments before we move on to the "next best thing".

Jesus talks about our treasures in the sixth chapter of Matthew. He truthfully and beautifully points out how we so easily place value on unimportant things. 19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Our Savior knows us so much better than we know ourselves. He teaches us the value in placing our treasures in heaven where the world cannot corrupt them. He reminds us that our hearts (and minds) will ultimately gravitate towards the things we treasure in life. Have you experienced loss from your worldly treasures? I have. Jesus is inviting you and me to make Him and Our Heavenly Father the treasure of our lives. The world cannot corrupt Him and the thief can never steal Him.

I hope you have a great rest of your week. Remember to continue praying for each other...
