It's Not the Same!

Society sure has changed dramatically over the past few years. There have been great strides in technology and advancements in very important ways. However, it is painfully apparent of all the negative changes as well. The lack of trust in many of our elected leaders, the uncertainty of our country's well being and safety along with the seemingly endless amount of animosity between one another (all of this can be attributed to the decline of sharing the good news of Jesus in our homes, schools and communities).
A steady decline has also been seen with in-person church attendance. Many will blame the pandemic for this concern. I believe this only accelerated an already growing problem. As a Christian nation, we have become comfortable with foregoing the ability, opportunity and blessing to go to church. We have convinced ourselves that technology can replace in-person service. It is just so much easier to not have to get cleaned up and drive to church when we can just watch on television when it is convenient wearing our "comfy" clothes.
Hebrews 10:25 "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."
Isn't the Word of God amazing! The writer of the book of Hebrews so many years ago was spot on with this passage when looking at the church of today. Many of us have forsaken gathering together. When we gather in-person to worship and share God with one another, there is a fellowship that cannot be replicated by a video screen.
I always use this example: our son TraVon is currently overseas serving in the military. We are blessed to have the technology to call, text and FaceTime with him (everytime we do I remember and honor those soldiers and families who could not). It is comforting to hear TraVon's voice and see his face while he is gone. However, it will be nothing compared to when we get to see him face to face when he is home. To hug him, rejoice with him and truly have that in-person reunion.
If you think about it, going to church in-person is a lot like preparing to go home to heaven. As Christians, we should make both a priority in our life; to prepare ourselves and look forward to seeing Jesus face to face.
Nothing will compare to it...
